Adapting to the New Normal – IELTS Preparation

This COVID pandemic situation has almost changed everything around the world. Likewise even the normal situation for people has changed throughout. It’s almost 6 months we’ve never done anything that we usually do. But slowly things and normal life has started resuming and we’re getting used to the “new normal.”

The boards have started conducting IELTS tests and the test dates in India are offered for about 4 times in a month and for a year it’s about 48 fixed dates. The IELTS dates might slightly vary in India depending on the academic and general training module, however the academic version is available on all 48 dates and 24 dates for the general training module. IELTS tests are usually conducted on Saturdays and Thursdays considering flexibility and convenience.

Some Tips and Tricks to Prepare for IELTS

Focus and listen to accents. As you can listen to the recording only once, you must have all ears to the accents. Train your ears by listening to TV news.

Make sure to read the directions. For instance, if you are asked to answer in 2 words in a listening test and your answer exceeds more than just 2 words then you might lose marks so pay attention and answer right.

Do mock tests. Listening tests last for 40 minutes and you’ll be given 10 minutes to answer your questions. Make sure you learn to pace yourself with time limits as this will help you revive your time constraints and also help you identify your strengths and weaknesses.

Speak a lot and exercise your fluency and pronunciation. Practice talking for a long time with right accent and proper pronunciation. You might also record and listen to your own speech to identify your own mistakes.

Find a study partner. Having a study partner can make learning feel easy and relaxed. It can also help you learn more through exchange of knowledge. Rehearse and get feedback from your friend and work on fixing it.
