It is more important for schoolchildren to learn about local history than world history. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is an incontrovertible fact that culture plays an essential role throughout the world in the education system. Nowadays, however, children are confronted by a vast range of historical knowledge; for this reason, some people believe that students should focus solely on local history. Local and world history should, according to the point of view, be taught because of the tremendous benefits they offer.
Local history is very important to begin with, particularly for schoolchildren because it is not just a specific subject at school, but the responsibility of each individual student for their own country. Or put it another way, through history, children can create a national identity that is likely or reinforce a sense of patriotism that promotes traditional values to be preserved.
From another point, there is also a strong need to know global history. Nevertheless, today’s concept of globalization is becoming increasingly popular, studying world history, thereby keeping young learners up-to-date and actually giving them more opportunities to be exposed to the outside world, which they undoubtedly cannot learn from home. In fact, world history also enhances opportunities for future careers to boost / improve job prospects. Take Japanese firms as a typical example, since Japanese firms appreciate a deep insight into their culture, it is totally advantageous for workers who gain a broad knowledge of Japanese history.
In addition, owing to their enormous pros both local history and world history are extremely important for pupils, so they should be widely taught in the school curriculum.
