Out of a country’s health budget, a large proportion should be diverted from treatment to spending on health education and preventative measures. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the above statement?
In this world, many people die from various types of health problems due to the lack of proper health education and preventive actions. That is why the government is spending a lot of money to find an appropriate approach to this issue.
There is a lot of ignorance about many common health problems, such as heart disease. Many of them can be predicted avoided, or their effects drastically reduced, if more people are made aware of them through public education programs. This has already been proven in many countries. The UK, for example, has seen a remarkable decrease in the number of women dying from breast cancer, as social marketing campaigns provide information on potential threats and encourage regular self-examination to discover this critical disease. With public awareness at its highest level, citizens are more concerned about their health and tend to perform periodic medical checks, which is beneficial in the long term.
Although, equally important is the daily treatment that patients are experiencing today. People have to find the money for this crucial cause elsewhere. Right now, our government is spending billions of dollars on arms. If they reallocated only a fraction of this amount into the health budget, medical facilities could be improved considerably and aid would be given to more disadvantaged people. Ultimately, this would result in a significant reduction in the number of patients whose illness has not been prevented and who need urgent medication, which, combined with health protection and prevention programs, can improve the health of the nation as a whole.
At the end of the day, while it is important to invest in a range of treatments available to those currently receiving them, this essay firmly believe that the government should also attach importance to the disbursement of money to implement programs that keep us healthy.
